Working in the community, for the community

A celebration of classes serving families in our community centre.

Beautiful New Beginnings

Beautiful New Beginnings is a local company supporting families in the community with pre- and postnatal classes. They provide a variety of classes including: well-being sessions, Pilates, counsellor-led sessions, baby play sessions, tummy time sessions, counselling support for children, and support for parents with children beginning school. Their services support many families and individuals; including those struggling with PND, bereavement, separation anxiety, OCD, anxiety and many more.

When lockdown occurred it was clear that there was an increased need for supporting families and pre-/postnatal women. To do this, Beautiful New Beginnings secured funding to provide these services for free and were able to go online with their classes.

Beautiful New Beginnings are continuing many online classes as well beginning to start a few face-to-face classes. To join any of their classes, follow them on facebook , instagram  and check out their website for more information.

Baby Ballet

Babyballet has a vision to create a dance experience that is both magical and educational for children aged six months to six years old. They base their classes on basic ballet techniques and use fun and engaging songs.  From time to time they include special themes such as a trip to the country side and under the sea.

At the time of lock down Babyballet had a clear vision of how they would continue. Babyballet said ‘It’s our responsibility to keep the babyballet world as normal as possible for them. We will be delivering our online classes with as much passion and energy as ever, it’s just that instead of being in a dance studio, we’ll be on a screen in children’s living rooms!’

Babyballet have started physical classes again, it has been a joy to welcome them back to the Millennium Centre. They are following covid safe guidelines and if necessary at any time they will go back to Zoom classes. To join Babyballet check out their website and follow them on facebook, instagram.

Yoga, Bumps & Babies

Yoga Bumps & Babies is run by Jenni Jones, she teaches baby massage and baby yoga. These classes are a great way to interact with your baby through movement, loving touch, song and relaxation.

Postnatal yoga is a great way to align the body, strengthen and release tension in the early weeks and months of motherhood. How women care for themselves and how they heal after pregnancy and birth can have significant impact.

Jenni’s classes are open to all new Mums and babies (Dads are welcome too) and babies can come until they start to crawl.

Since lockdown she took her classes online. She had concerns about how baby classes would work online but knew mothers still needed this support and care. However, she found that although everyone is in their own homes, they connect, share, move with their babies in their own space. The benefit of online classes were that they were recorded, so if baby was sleeping, feeding or just not in the mood for a massage or yoga at 10am, they could always do it later.

Her next course start at the end of October to join check out her website and follow her on facebook, instagram and check her website.

YogaBears (LucyLuYoga)

Lucy teaches children’s yoga at the Millennium Centre, it is suitable for children aged 2-12 years. Lucy is passionate about guiding children, and teaches a variety of yoga postures which holistically support them in their early years of development and beyond. Sessions provide a fun and stimulating environment where children can find their own voice and wisdom.

Classes consist of breathing techniques, yoga postures, relaxation and meditation, fun games, arts and crafts. In each class children are invited to create their own yoga postures; this inspires children to be free, creative and self-expressive. Classes incorporate breathing techniques and conclude with deep relaxation, guided meditation and head massages.

There are many benefits of yoga for children, for example teaching them the importance of peaceful time, and inspiring kindness, patience, acceptance and empathy. Yoga also reduces stress and promote a healthy body.
